THE DUTIES OF A VETERINARY Si: KG EON. (Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 24. A meeting of the Southland Farmers' I'nion to-dny was very fully attended, to consider the resignation of Patcrson, veterinary ofllcer and organising secretary, which had been the subject ol considerable discussion by the branches. It was Anally decided to accept the resignation, as it was recognised by most of the delegates thut the position was an impossible one, the veterinary ollicer having been sometimes called to cattle of subscribers fifty miles ajinrt simultaneously:, and one or more had to be disappointed, thus causing dissatisfaction and difficulty in collecti ing the guarantees given for veterinary services. Every satisfaction wus (expressed with Mr Puterson. whore duties had been arduous and successfully carried out. The matters of filling the vucant position and consideration of what the subscriptions to the union should be were deferred.
