I THE NEW VANCOUVER COXTIt.YCT, (I'd- Press Association.) MXIODIX, .lan, 23. Mr James Mills, managing director of the Union Steamship I\ mpany states, in reg-ard to Hie Vancouver mail service, that his company is now negotiating with die colonial Governments interested for a renewal of the c,ontiac<} which expires in May next". The new contract. will be for three years, and will probably provide lor a Xew Zienland port 0)1' call, in lieu of itrislmne us at present. Service will continue to be & four-weekly one, and Mr Mills renmrked that a fortnightly service, uk suggested in the Australian cables, was out of the question in the meantime. Asked which Xew Zealand port was likely to be visited by the Vancouver mail steamers, under the new contract,, Mr Mills sa'ld that the onus of deciding; that would relit upon the Xew Zealand Government. As to the Federal mail service and the cabled statement that the I'nion Company might put a tender for the same, Mr Mills said that therehad beeni nothing more than u casual inl|iiiry on the subject.
