O'iiorke), in his opening speech at the University Senate, referred to the ecclesiastical agitation to change the basis of thv primary system of education. lie said if il, were given elVect to It, must affect the University, perhaps end it as a secular institution IJu concluded : "All „f would deeply regret (o see introduced into the University any subject which Would cause discord in tho management and lead to sectarian control of lis work." The Chancellor expressed regret that none of the colleges had been able to appoint a professor.
