A letter received by tho Ueneral Secretary of tho Methodist Mission '' from an island correspondent men-' lions that early in August there was a rising in (Jeiinun New Guinea' led by an ex-New Britain boy, the, object b'.'ing the extermination of whites. The vice-Uovernor went and' quelled it, and all is there. I Referring to the mass a cro of Catliolic missionaries in New Britain, 1 he said tho quarrel was instigated by Father Rasher's house boy who I was trained by the mission itself. There were also two raids on the station at Maviu, which were repair-1 ed, on the Sunday morning following the murders. Tho natives were only too willing to participate, asj they are feeling sore about what is' regarded as high-handed action on the part of somo members of the mission. Another element iu tliej matter was that the boy wanted to 1 marry a station girl, and the mem-1 bers refused to allow him to do ao.i This lad organised! the affair, and ( shot Father Hasher with his own gun. Father Rasher was cut into small pieces, and all the rest were, more or less mutilated. ]
