In the House the Railways Committee reported on tho petition ol Samuel Vaile for a trial of the stage system on the Government railways, referring the matter to the Government for consideration. Mr Massey moved in favour of Mi Vaile's system being given a trial, and the discussion on the subject occupied nearly the whole afternoon. In the evening Major Steivaid's Legislative Council Reform Dill was further considered in committee. An amendment moved iby Mr Hanan, to amend clause 3 in the direction of making the Council a revising chamber, consisting of twelve members, wa<s negatived oji ta> voices, | and the remaining clauses of the bill passed without material amend- ; ment. ' Mr Millar's Harbours! Act Amendment Bill was put through the linal stages. In committee on Major Steward's Marriage Restrictions Removal Bill progress was reported. Mr Hogg's Destitute Persons Act Amendmeat Bill »assed through committee, and the House rose at' 11.10 p.m. SESSIONAL NOTES. It is not likely the Customs tariff will be amended this session. The Government hopes that the State Fire Insurance Department will commence operations about the Ist October. It ia not contemplated to have a close season next year (190.5) for either native or imported game for the whole of the colony. No amendment of the marriage law will be introduced this session. The Local Government Franchise Bill will not be re-introduced this session.
