Yesterday afternoon At the, office of the Government grader, Mr S. A. Oumbleton, who recently resigned from the service in order to take a position as travelling representative for 'Messrs Boattie, Lang and Co., oi Wellington und Palmerston, was made the recipient of a handsome gold albert, the gift of his lata col-, leagues. Mr J. Johnston, on behalf of the grading staff in tie Taranaki district, makle the presentation, and in doing so referred to the excellent cordiality that had always existed between Mr Dumbleton and the other members of tho staff. In an address which ho read, Mr JoJtnston hoped that l n Mb new sphere Mr Dumbloton would continue to advance as he hod done in the Government service, and that he would live long to wear the tokon now presented as a mark of appreciation of his worth by those who had had the honour of being closely associated with him In his work.

Mr Dumbleton, in reply, thanked his late fellow-workers for the kindness alwayß shown him, culminating in this handsome presentation. He remarked that the factory and grading systems were as near perfect as could be wished, and needed but little improvement. The faulty butter produced was generally the result of carelessness on the part of the farmers, who did not take sufficient care of tho milk in order that it might arrive at the factory in the very best possible condition. All tho work, all tho care of half-a-dozen intelligent and business-like farmers who took pains with their milk could be utterly undone by one careless individual who was not at all particular with regard to the! selection of herds, health of the cows I and cleanliness of the byres and milk ng utensils.
