_ ♦ ■ . (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, September 2. ■ 'Thomas Berkett, a settler in the Wairau Valley, was drowned while attempting to cross the Wairau river at the north bank. His horse and dray were found in the ford, and the body a little lower down the liver. \ WAIPAWA. September 2. S. White, a young roan residing at Kaihora, accidentally shot himself in the side yesterday. Death jvas instantaneous. WHANGAREI, September 2. R. Hitching, the three-year-old 6011 of the licensee of the Hikuran«i Hotel, was accidentally drowned in the Hikurangi River. DUNEMN, September 2. Donald McNaughton, who fell off a building at Caversham several days ego, died in the hospital to-night.
