Deaths by Drowning.
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 18. John Perriton, carpenter, aged 25, disappeared on Juno 11th from his lodgings. The police made Inquiries, but wero unsuccessful. Yesterday his body was found in the Heathcote River. TIMARU, July 18. James Cochrane, a settler at Walkakahi, was drowned in the Waihao River, while returning homo from Waimate on Saturday night. WAIMATE, July 18. Cochrane's horse returned home ridorlesfc, and on a search boing made the body of deceased was found on Sunday morning floating in tho river. Atl tho inquest to-day the jury returned a verdict of accidental drowning and added a rider that as this was the second accident of a similar kind at the place the council should widen tho road and place a gate across the road leading to the ford and thus compel people to go by tho bridge. Deceased was an old resident, and was sober at tho time of the accident
