New Plymouth Exhibition
Tho exhibition committee met last night. Present : Messrs 11. Goodacre (chairman), W. Newman, E. Dockrill, Green, N. K. MacDiarmid, A. VI. Wood, G. Browne, Okey, J. Skinner, W. A. Collis, W. 11l Skinner, P, B. Ross, L. W, Alexander, licV'ertson, W. Am\/iry, C. Carter, J. C. Morey, sen., D. Whitton, Staples, W. E. Spencer, J. W. Wilson, F. 10. Wilson, Al. J. Jones, and E. Jay. Mr Allen, scretury to the Wellington Industrial Association, wrote acknowledging the letter allpointing him Wellington agent. The Premier .accepted the office of vice-nrcsieleill.
Mr A. JlcUwl's letter suggesting the inclusion of certain dancing events in live sports programme was referred to the sports committee. ' i .Mr Alexander niovid, accordin;; to notice to rescind the resolution charging for all exhibits in Hie art section.—The motion was carried. It was thin derided thai the exhibits of all artists of recogMisid shinding be re.-eived and exhibited free of charge, with the exception of ten per cent, charged on sales. Mr Alexander, in answer to questions, stated that "artists of standing" comprised members of the recognised art associations.
Mr W. 11. Skinner reported that he hud been interviewed by Kahui, chief of the Xgutihuiipoto tribe, whoso .\oung people are to inhabit the Maori villa'go and provide thedantigg attractions, asking that the committee provide some sinews of war in the shape of abundant weight of flour and some sugar every month. , lie said that at present the whole of the dancers were practising in his :whale at his expense,—The request jw us granted, and the committee also fuvoura'bly mxMved a request to supply cheap white-dresses for the pe>i girls. Mr Spencer moved that Mrs Onrd'ner be riwuiested to give cookery demonstrations nl the exhibition as a side-show. Judging by Ihe popularity of the classes at the teachers' winter school, this should prove a remunerative attraction.—Seconded by Mr Skinner and carried. Mr Morey moved, and Mr Carter seconded, and it was resolved that arrangements be made for telephone and telegraph messages.
Mr S. Ward, exhibition commissioner at Stratford, wrote asking that a canvasser be appointed immediately, and promising every assistance.—To bo acknowledged, and the suggestion will be taken into consideration when t-ho schedules are issued.
The committee then considered the schedule 1 , and a <!omprehensive one was adeipted, certain .seetievns being referred-back to the schedule committee, and Messrs Spencer, Collis Jay n<nd Rol>ertson, for revision, with power to act.
