Licensing.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 1. The Hutt Licensing Committee renewed all licenses to-day. WOOPVILLE, June 1. At the annual meeting of the Licensing Committee to-day objection was taken by the police to the renewal of a license issued to William Hales, of the Herbertville Hotel, on the grounds that the applicant had served liquor to drunken men, that he had permitted billiard playing after hours, and that the license had been twice endorsed. It was stated in evidence that three men recently had a week's spree at the hotel, and while intoxicated sold a horse, two saddles and bridles, two watches, and a coat to Hales. All the money obtained went in drink. It was also stated that Hales, who had been twenty years in the hotel, permitted children to serve in the bar and manage the billiard room. The bench decided to refuse a license to Hales, and allowed twenty-one days in which to find another licensee.
