The Department of Industries antf Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, 28th inst : There has been no alteration in thn mutton market since cabling last week, Lamb is in good demand. The average price to-day for Canterbury brands is s id per It>, tor brands other than Canterbury s|d. Beef is in better demand. The average price to-day for hindquarters of Now Zealand beef is B|d per tb, for fores 2Jd per lb. Butter— I The market, is steady, but speculators ore very limited, .Supplies on hand ore very heavy, and what buying is wing done is chiefly speculative. Considerable quantities of butter now arriving are 'being placed in, the cold stores, I%e average price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 86s per cwt,, Danish 955, Siberian' 80s per cwt. Choese—The market is firm, with improved demand. The' average price for finest New Zealand cheese to-day is 42s per cwt. Hemp—The market is dull. Tho 1 price of New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot, today is £3l per ton. May to Juno shipments are quoted at £3O per ' ton. Cocksfoot seed—The market is steady. Tne average price for bright, clem- New Zealand seed, weighing 11V lb per bushel, on 8I)ot. to-day is 52s per cwt.
