A Level Crossing Victim.
(Per Tress Association.) TiMARU, May 30. An inquest on the body of Waller Eli Prattley, the victim of the railway accident at High-street crossing Tomuka, on Saturday evening, was held at Tcmuka this afternoon. The Evidence showed Prattley had been I aware tho express was due and that I ho should not cross, but he took no notice, and whipped up his three horses, and took the crossing. The horses had just got over as tho express came along, travelling at the rate of 30 miles an hour, struck one wheel fair on the hub, and smashed tho shafts, freeing the horses. Prattley, who was standing up in the dray, was carried with the wreckage of the dray against the cattle J stop. Deceased was thrown into a ditch alongside. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
