Mr T. Stead leaves Capetown this week on a visit to Australia. Mr Chamberlain has returned to London after his holiday, undertaken to recruit his health, He and Airs Chamberlain were accorded a hearty welcome on entering the city. Tho Premier, who returned to Featherston after attending thd funeral of the late Air Andrew, at Wei-' ling'ton, is still res-ting in the Wairarapa, alnd aontinues to improve in health. Captain Matthews, of Inglewood, who served with several New Zjealaiul contingents in South Africa, leaves for England with Mrs and Master Matthews, by the Oirirnh from Sydney on tho 7th prox. A. Melbourne cable message received this morning states that reports of lion. C. C. Kingston's convalescence refer to his bodily condition only. Those acquainted with the facta of tho caso assert that the exMinistor's mental state is unsatisfactory. Ills Excellency the Governor will remain In Wellington until the 20th insl., when he will leave for Feilding. On the following day he will come on to New Plymouth, and from hence depart for Kotorua. After spending a few days in tho lvot lake district Lord ItanfurJy will return to Auckland and stay there for a limited period 'before he goes back to Wellington. Mr Arthur Ilopper. who a few years ago was well and known in New Plymouth, and who was for a time [manager of the Daily News, was in town on Saturday ami yesterday. After some weeks spent in Auckland, on holi-day-making bent,' Al- Hopper is now proceed injf southwards to his home at Afosgjiel.
