NOTES BY fCOVER-POINT.*' I have to acknowledge receipt, from Sydney, with the compliments of "A,H,5,," of a very useful memento of the visit of the English team, with the result of all matches anil the batting and bowling averages. "Some records of the tour" ope nlsfe included in this; useful Souvenir. Thanks, very much, "A.H.5.," whoever you are. Fane, who visited Now Zealand with Warner's team last season, will he captain of Essex County team this season. The M.C.C. will loso £.1300 over the late visit to Australia. This large loss will make the "ashes" rather expensive. At the annual meeting of captains at Lord's it wus decided that in future the Ingoing batsman must meet the outgoing batsmun on the steps of the pavilion, and an addenda to this effect will he added to the Hulvs of Cricket. This will, of course, have to be udopted In local cricket next season.
A bit of a rumpus was caused at Dunedin, in a theatrical ladies' cricket match lately. The captain of out) o( the teams was informed by a gentleman that the team fielding were doing go without a square leg. She indignantly replied "Thank goodness. we have not one in the team." The Plumbers easily accounted for the Fire Brigade team on Saturday, tlmnko to the bowling of Mynott, who also, with Mr Top" Francis, collared the firemen's bowling, and made every post a winning one. A remarkably line catch was made by Helliinger for the brigade, he h-aving to run a considerable distance. lie received a round of applause- from players and spectators alike.
