Tuesday being the hist occasioned which .Mr Stanford, S.M., presided ill the local court, Mr T. C. Kookes, on behalf of the local members of the legal profession, thanked his Worship for- the unfailing courtesy which he had always shown towards them. Reference was also made to the approaching retirement of Mr J. 11. Stoney, Clerk of the Court,and regret, expressed at t lie loss of so worthy and popular an officer. Mr Stoney will give up his duties, after many years of service, at Hie end of the present month. The question of municipal baths was brought up at Ihe last meeting of the council. Councillors generally wore in favour of the idea, although one or two expressed doubts as to whether they could be maintained without, too much expense. Tin; plau prepared by Mr Climie, however, shows I hat a very suitable bath could bo construcled for £(UJO. The main bath would be bo feet by •10 feel, and the smaller one IS e-et by 'lo feet. Fifteen dressing boxes would be erected on the south side. The locality suggested is next to tile Town Hull. A. special committee has been set up to consider ways and means. In introducing the matter, Mr King mentioned thai a genileman in the town had offered a subscription of towards the cost..
