UNWILLING WITNESSES.
SECURE A REMISSION OF FINES, (Received March 10, 11.35 p.i.i.) SYDXEY, March 10. In connection with the rival Shearers' Unions' case, John Leahy, a witness who was fined for refusing to be sworn before the Roynl Commission, was to-day grunted by the Full Court a rule calling upon the magistrate who imposed the fine to- show cause why a writ of prohibition should not issue i estraining further proceedings upon the ordur imposing tho Hue. The grounds upon which the rule was granted were that the Royal Commission was illegal, and secondly that supposing it to be legal there was evidence in the case disclosing a reasonable excuse for refusing to be sworn and no evidence of want of a reasonable excuse. A.similar rule was granted in the case of a witness who refused lo attend the Royal Commission.
