ELECTION APPEALS.
FEDERAL lIICH COURT J I'DGMEXTS, (Received March 10, 11.35 p.m.) MELUOIJRNE, March 10. The Federal High Court has delivered its judgments in the appeals of Dr. Moloney against Sir Malcolm McEachern's election to the Federal House lor Melbourne, and Mr Chanter's against Mr Blackstone's election for Hiverina. In the Ih'st case it was decided that applications for postal voting certificates must be attested by a Justice, of the I'eace or other authorised oilicial. This means that a large number of votes cast were invalid. In Blackstone's ease it was decided that votes recorded on postal ballot papers at polling places other than Ihe ones they were enrolled for were invalid. The Court held that it had no jurisdiction to void an election except for bribery or other illegal practices. The judgment favours the petitioners.. SIR MALCOLM McEACHEUX'S ELECTION VOIDED. (Received March 11, 1.10 a.m.) MELUOIUXE, March 10. Sir Malcolm McEachern was declared elected by a majority of 70. To-day's decision alfected several hundred votes. After the High Court had given its ruling counsel lor Sir Malcolm McEachern announced that the latter desired to place himself in the hands of the Chief Justice and was quite prepared to have his election voided. The Chief Justice thereupon declared that Sir Malcolm McEachern was not duly elected, and that the election was absolutely void.
