(Par Press Association.) BUNEDIN, Dec. 8. At tho quarterly licensing meeting yesterday the committee warned hotelkeepers in regard to the management of houses, perticularly as to serving persons under tho influence of ICauor, solliitng after hours, and Sunday trading. The committee were aware that special precautions were used to elude, tho police and evade detection, but owners and licensees would be wise to discountenance these practices and strictly comply with tho provisions of the licensing laws. Dec. 8. The Magistrate's Court this morning was occupied in hearing a charge of sly gr/)g selling at Kaetihi agt ainst Alphonsus Rush, a bookmaker. Judgment was reserved. A number of other cases aro to be proceeded with. LATER. At the Police Court to-day four men .were charged with sly.grog selling at. Uaetihii. Alphonso Kush, Alfred Dauphin and Thomas Weir wpre each sentenw:ed to one month's imprisonment without the option of a fine. Each wias a first offender, but the Magistrate said lie was determined to deal as harshly as the law would allow with those who wilftilly and with their eyes oi*m sold liquor unlawfully. A charge against Joseph Punch was dismissed.
