THE ENGLISHMEN IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, November 7. In fine weather, with a perfect wicket, and in the presence of a large number of spectators, the English cricketers began their Australian tour on the Adelaide Ovul in the match against South Australia. Below the game commenced Warner announced he had received a cable from tire Marylebone Club, instructing him that the follow-on should be optional at 200. Fielder, Knight, and Strudwick stood out of the visitors' team. Warner won the toss, and elected to 'bat, going in himself with Hayward, and the pair made a most promising opening. Starting cautiously, "they gradually warmed to their work, but the first hour outproduced thirty runs. After luncheon both played with greater freedom-! Severul changes of bowling were tried, but failed to keep down runs. The century was •hoisted as tho result of two hours' batting. Warner was playing dashing cricket,' and Haywurd too was giving u lino display ull round the wicket. The batsmen at this time ran each other closely as far -as scores were concerned. A separation was aliected at 122, when Warner, who had prcviously given a hard chance, succumbed to a catch by third man Hayward's score was then 55. Tydesley and Foster followed each other in quick succession, and thon Braund joined Wayward, who had raised his score to 79, and from this out to tile drawing 0 * the stumps the field had a busy time and many changes were rung in the bowling.
