Vital Statistics.
The estimated population of the colony at the end of September, excluding Maoris and Pacific Islanders, was 434,817 males and 338,071 females, or a total of 823,488. The quarter's increase by births was 5404, and by arrivals 5356. The loss by d«aths was 2274, and by departures 3890. The net increaso for the quarter was 4056. The Maori population, according to the 1901 census, "was 43,143, and that of the' i'aciue Islands 12,292.
