The gallops to-day were confined to the oinder piths as the tracks are still heavy and the atmosphere sultry. At the opening betting to-day for thi Caulfielcl Cap Sweet Nell was on offer at 6 to 1, without any takers, and subsequently, consequent on backing of Notkos and Klderslie, she retired to 8 to 1. Nothos and Elderslie were each backed to win about £7OOO, the formei at 8 to 1 and the latter at 14 to 1. The backers of Elderslie were willing to go or>, but wanted 15 to I. The closing quotations are: 8 to 1 each Sweet Nell and Notho?, 14 to 1 Elders lie and Bilhli.
