OUR RAILWAY TIME-TABLE.
The Minister for Railways was ask«d by Mr Symes on Thursday if he would so arrange the railwty time-table as to enable people residing south of Hawer* to go to and return from New Plymouth on the same day. Sir Joseph Ward, in reply, said the time-table is now under review, and representations made by various local bedies of the district would receive consideration. The many conflicting interests involved increased the difficulty, It was practically asking that a local train should be run between Wanganui and New Plymouth every day. That was quite out; of the question. There were, 42 possible stops in the journey of 107 miles, and that would mean a journey of five and three-quarter hours each way. It would, therefore, be apparent that it was not possible for a mixed I train, stopping at all stations, to make the double journey in a day and allow passengers sufficient time at the ter-| ruinate to transact business. The traffic at present was insufficient to warrant the Department in running such a train if it was possible to do so K The existing service was very liberal and ample for present requirements.
