LIFE AND WORK OF D.L. MOODY.

LECTURE BY REV. J. N. BOTTLE,

This promised lecture by the Rev. J N. Buttle on the life and work of D. L. Moody, attracted a large attendance at Whiteley Church on Wednesday evening. Mr. Whitaker presided, and briefly introduced the speakei. Mr. Buttle's account of the career of the great American evangelist was a [rare treat, and served to stamp the rev. ■ gentleman as a first-class lecturer as well as preacher. The speaker in a most interesting manner traced the life of Mr. Moody from the time of his boyhood to the closing scene, when orowned with more honors perhaps than any Christian worker of recent times, he went to his rest. Speaking of Mr. Moody's commercial life be pointed to him as an example of the fact that in business, no matter how keen, honesty muat triumph in the end, But it was in the history of this great man's evangelical work that most interest centred, and the speaker's lucid description of Moody's triumphal progress was followed by everyone with the closest attention. Space will not permit of an extended repot t, but it is safe to say that eveoyone who attended felt stimulated and inspired by the recital of what one man, in the face of great odds, has done in the space of a nhort life. At the conclusion Miss Oollis sang "Sowing the Seed," the audience joining in the chorus. The benediction brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
