The body of a man with a bullet wound in his head was found here. A note in hi 3 packet said :—" I cannoS get work, and have no food or shelter. Better to end the struggle than scar ve."
Westport, July 26
At the inquest on the body found in the Buller river on Saturday, the evidence printed to the body being that of John Hanan, who had signed on for a passage by the Mokau from Waitar i to Westport. A verdict of dea'h by drowning was returned. Timaru, July 26.
John Meager, a pk'ehyt-r, was accidentally killed by the Dunedin-Ohnst-church express n9ar Studholme yester day. He hud got out of the way of the traiD, and in moving slipped and fall upon the line. Ho was struck by the cowcatcher ani kil'ed instwtly. Dannevirke, July 25,
Peter Smith, aged 60, and unmarried, was found dead in his whare, ap parently from natural causes.
