ANNEXATION OF TONGA.
RUMOUR DENIED. APOLOGY TO BRITISH CONSUL. PER PBESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, July 23. News from Toui;a states ■ that the rumour re annexation is unfounded and all in the group hope they will be left alone, The merchants are quite satisfied with the administration and laws. On June 3rd the British fhg w?s hoisted at T.;nga and saluted as an apology to Mr Hunter, the British Oonsul, who had complained of his treatment on the occasion of the visit of Governor Jackson, when he was stopped by a sentry upon seeking an audience with the King.
