BAD WEATHER IN THE SOUTH.
TELEGRAFH LINES INTERRUPTED. PKB FBESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, July 13. The Telegraph Department has received reports showing that exceptionally heavy weather has been experienced in Marlborough, Westland, Canterbury, And Otago. At Blenheim all three rivers, have been in flood, and tha nor'hern portion of the, town was under water yesterday to a depth of three feet. This is the first flood Blenheim has had since th« completion of the flood protection works Borne four years ago. Telegraphic communication in Canterbury was ytsterday restored between Ohristchurch and Temuka, but from the latter town Eou'.hward the wires were interrupted. The rivers north and sou'h of Christohurch were in high flood on Saturday, but on Sunday they were falling, and tbe weather in Ohristchurch began to break towards the evening. No advices could b9 received from Westland yesterday, but in the evening communication was restored between Wellington and Grey mouth. At the Lyell heavy rain fell all day on Saturday. The roof of the telegragh office wbs lifted by the wind, but it was got into position again and ti.d down with fencing wiie.
