EGMONT VILLAGE SPORTS.
A virt pleasant gathering was held at Egmont Village on Thursday when the Athletic Club Sports were held. Tue J attendance was fair considering insufficient advertising. This is a mistake, the object being to save expense, but it is always found thai advertising i pays better than any other expenditure. The competition was g«od and the committee left nothing undone to make the meeting a success. Mr Geo. Dewhirst, the secretary, wa« exceedingly courteous and obliging and the right man in the right place. Mr Geo. Marsh's orchestra was on the ground and did good service in the absence of a band. The following are the results:
I Maiden: Simpson 1, Kinsella 2, Yates 3, A good race, won by a couple of yards. 100 Yards Handicip: Ist heat, O'Dea 1, W. J. Batten 2, G. Burkett 8. A we'l contested race. 100 yards, second heat: Sampson 1, F. Yates 2, Kinsella 3. Won by a yard. 100 yards, final: A. Brin 1, Sampson 2, Kinsella 3. This was a good race, only won on the post. O'Dea entered a protest, but our reporter did cot get the result.
High Jump: Ingley 1, Fowler 2, Pace 3. This was a keenly contested event.
Bicycle Race, one mile: L. Mursh 1, tfaskel 2, L. Olsen 3. This was an easy win. Half Mile: Oapel 1, R. A. Allen 2, M. J. Botten 3, A protest was enter* d against Oapel on the ground of non-residence, but the protest was later an withdrawn. Mr Gudgeon, of Inglewood, presented a silver medal to the winner. 220 yds: Barnes 1, Sampson 2, O'Dea 3. A good race all the way. School Boy'd 100 yds: Ohard 1, Marsh 2, K-idd 3. School Girls, 100 yds: E. Off 1, F. Kidd 2, A. Ohard 3.
440 yds: G. T. Burkett 1, JR. A, Allan 2, R. F. Farland 3. This was a good race, there were nine starters, and was only won on the tape. Oigar and Umbrella Race: Brawer 1, Barnes 2, J. A. Downey 3, These were the only starters, and the race was a very hollow affair. Nail Driving Competitiom (ladies): Mrs James Magee 1, Miss Alice Beilby 2, Ruby Bailby 3. Bicycle Race, two miles: L. Marsh 1, W. Stock 2, G. Hankel 3. Only entries. A ding-dong r all through. One Mile : O. Oapel 1, Farland 2, F. Standish 3. Suven starters. Won rather easily.
I 120 yds Hurdles: Ingley 1, Pi ice 2, Fowler 3. There , were four starters, and the race was well contested.
Girls Race (open to all-coaaers): H. 1 Jury 1, K. Earp 2, S. Williamg 3. Nice starters. Good race. Oon«olati«B Race (handicap): Fowler 1, Price 2, Mages 3. Six started. This ; race was well coatasted, and brought j the meeting to a close. <
