J. C. WILLIAMSON'S COMPANY.
The Hawera Star aay»: A full hour", which was very enthusiastic, witnessed the prsduction of' Sherlock Holme 3,' a play with exciting situations and quick acion enough to please the greatest lover of sensition. The plot is skilful, it lends itself to fine dressing and god scenery, and is full of incident. No wontjei, therefore, that for three hours tbe audience followed with great interest the trial of wits be tween Holmes and the " Napoleon of Crime," Professor Moriarty, and was despondent »nd elated alternately as the csiminal's or tin detective's en ! of the beam went up. The Company is noS by any means a one man show; all the characters which act as a setting to that of Holmes are played by actois and actresses of undoubted ability, Mr Cuyler Hastings' conception of his part being all th;-t could ba «ia!ud. In the more i-xciti»g scenes with the professor, and in ihe gas chamber, he fairly roused the enthusiasm of the audience, and in the final scene—by the way, a most effectivt one—his ac iiif; w-s 'f great dramatic merit. As a fine piece of character noting, commend us to Mr Atholwold'i impersonation of Professor Moriarty, the Emperor of Criminals. A good orchestra supplied incidental music which added to the enjoyment of the pßif'jrmance, The scenic effects re fleeted much credit on the company's artists "
