TARANAKI MOUNTED RIFLES.
A meeting of members of the late Taranaki Mounted Rifles was held at Mr J. C. Davies' effica on Saturday evening, when there were present Messrs J. C. and W. Davies, H Okay, J. Skinner, J. C. George, F. Me-sen-gi-r, H. N-jwland, King, Outfit Id, T, E. and D. Gilmour.
Mr J. 0. Daviea occupied the chir, and explained that the object of the mesting waa to decide what steps should be taken regarding the disposal of the colours belonging to the troop, which was disbanded about 1883. It had been suggested that they should be deposited in the Museum. He then read extracts from the reports published at the time regarding the pre sentation of the colours to the troop, at which tbe several companies of volunteers in the district at the time assisted. Mr George moved that th«nks be tendered to Mr and Mrs 0. Deacon, who had taken cara of the flags for some time past, and that tbsy be presented to the local Museum, Messrs J, 0. Davies, 0. Deicon, and H. Newland to be a committee to carry out the presentation in such m.mner as may be decided upon.—Carried, It was resolved to procure a suitable case for the colours.
An offer by Mr Hamerton to print information for depositing with tho colours was accepted with thanks'. After a long discussion it was resolved that all membors of the corps bi [requested to attend tho presentation, and the committee were instructed to arrango a suitable ceremony and invite the volunteers to assist by providing a guard of honour, etc. It was decided to leave tbe date open, and after some further conversational discussioa thy meeting adjourned.
