GARDEN PARTY AT THE HOSPITAL.

Eayoubed with exce\l«nt weather the garden party iu the Hospital Grounds on Thursday afternoon was attended by over 200 people and proved a greit succesp, being the means of raising about £25 towards the very worthy object of providing a co'tage for the nurses' use. The Town Band very kindly attended and their selections ! were greatly appreciated. In the or» lidor of the hospital an extemporised musical entertaiomeot was held at which Misses Murphy, Daisy Taylor, aud Skeot and Mr. P rry coutnbutid some vocal items, and Miss Marion Govett with Mr. Cooke treated the audience to some violin music. In addition to this Mr. Boulton's gigantic graphophooe assisted to entertain those present. Tbe produce stall was well patronised, as was': the flower stall, the latter being well looked after by Misses Gay Shaw, Irene Skinner and Gray. Tbere was a great run on the afternoon tea and Mesdames Messenger and Mills, ?ith eight lady assistant?, had a busy time. The general arrangements were supervised by Mrs Henry Gray (who has already done good work for tbe Hospital) and assisting her were Mtsdames Uuck, Courtney and Dockrill, In the course of tbe afternoon when the company were in tbe corridor his Worship the Mayor, Mr. E. Dockrill, took advantage of the opportunity of referring to tha aid already given by Mrs, Gray towards securing the prop°r equipmeot of tbe operating room, and in tbe course of his remarks alluded to the arduous duties of the nurses, and the desirableness of their being provided with comfortable quarters. He expressed his pleasure at so many being present to aid in so good an object. A large number of visitors availed themselves of the opportunity of going over tbe hospital and altogether a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. Mrs Gray and those associated with her are to be congratulated on the success of tbeir good work.
