THE JANET WALDORF SEASON.
"MEROHANT OF VENICE" TO-NIGHT. It is very many years since this masterpiece of Shakespeare has been raged iu New Plymouth, acd for that reason, as well as the fact that it is being played by such a capital company, a hearty reception should be acoorded it at the Theatre Royal this evening. Whorever it has been played by this company it has baen received with great favour and, crowded houses. To the younger generation who have not seen " The Merchant of "Venice," the production will be a delightful nove'ty —an intellectual and educational feas* that has fascinated their fathers and grandfathers. To those whom every line is familiar, their plait-ura will b i in renewing a very pleasant acqu>intauce and comparing the readings of the different parts with tboss they have seen before. The following is the complete cast of characters Shy lock,, Mr Norval Macgregor; Antonio, Mr Paul Scardon; Bassmio, Mr Lawrence Hawray; Gratiaoo, Mr Harry Douglas; galarino, Mr (J. Neville; Palermo, Mr T. W, Lloyd; Lorenzo, Mr Vivian Edwards; Tubil, Mr L. Cathgart; the Duke of Venice, Mr Qto. Bentley; Portia, Miss Janet Waldorf; Nerissa, Miss Marie D'Alton; Je6siea, Miss Florence Bartlett. To-morrow evening " The Jewess" will be staged, and on Monday Miss Waldorf and her company will appear for the last time, the play for that evening b?ing " The Lady of Lyons." The box plan, in charge of Mr D, McKinnon Bain, shows some heavy marking, and the season should be one of the most successful ever iu New Plymouth, No time should be 'ost in securing the remaining peats.
