FIJI AND NEW ZEALAND.
SUGGESTED FEDERATION. PXB PKBSB ASSOCIATION. Auckland, February 6. Humphrey Berkeley, of Fiji, who has taken a prominent part in Fijian publio affairs since taking up his residenoe in the group, is at presmt on a visit to Auckland. He said: In regard to the federation of Fiji with New Zeahnd, it it bound to come. The group li»s at the very threshold of the colony, and is practically no further away than is Dunedin from Auckland. Of course, special provision will have to be made for the mainteoanoe of the present labour laws in Fiji, the doing away with blaak labour b«ing an impossibility. That is, of oouiw, a bir to our entranoe into ths Oomraoiiweiltb, the Federal Parliament having declared for a "White Australia." New Zealand, after all she has done for the Empire in the matter of seeding assistance to the army at the C»pe, baa a right to ask ths Imperial Government for federation with Fiji, or f >r the annexation of the group, and the present time, just after the despatch of one contingeat and just before the despatch of another, would be particularly appropria'e for ashing what would undoubtedly prove a boon to both colonies.
