In the course of a speech the Premier, < referring to land settlement in the Wairarapa, said all the efforts of the, Government to acquire land there so far had been frustrated,. Though the Government had attempted time after time it hud not been able to secure one estate. The offiosr in charge of the Land Purchase Department had been changed and now two Of tfcrea estates were being reported upon. There would no more humbug. Referring to a statement th*t there would be two short sessions during the year the Premier said there would be no such thing. Though hr might have some diffidence iu going to England with the respor.siMlity of reprosenting New Zetland, he left the colony to the control of his supporters wiih perfect ooufiJenue. Speaking on tho finances of the colony, the Premier said the revenue fcr tnn months of the financial year exceeded that for the same period of hat year by £151,000.
