HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The adjourned meeting of the Board I' was held on Monday evening. Pre- 1 - sent: Messrs McDiarmid (chairman), , J. Wilson, J. B. Roy, E. Dockrill, and j ' T. S. Weston. j T. P. Duckworth wrote applying for , a position at the High School as gym-| nastic instructor.—Deferred till next|j me«tir>g. j. Trie Chairman referred to the leases ( of Edward Newing and Daniel Hughes,! .held from the Board, which had been'j before parliament. He said thafcj i members of the Board were indignant that Parliament should have ( dealt with the. matter behind the | Board's back. Mr Weston moved that the chair- . man, Mr Boy and the mover be a . committee to draw up a letter detailing the particulars of the cas?, espe cially in regard to Hughes' tenancy, and forward it to the Ministers for Education and Lands, acd Mr E. M. Smith on his return, the matter having deen dealt with by Parliament without a chance of the Board explaining its action. Mr Dockrill protested against such action. Fe said the Board had made a change in rental which was against the spirit of the Act. He contended that the Board at the time agreed that if necessary Parliament would have to step in later and adjust matters, and members now proposed to go back on that—a course to which he was strongly opposed. The Chairman said Mr Dockrill had missed the point. The resolution was not complaining of the finding of the Government - all it objected to was the manner in which it had come about. Mr Dockrill said he could not agree with tbe resolution, as it meant that these tenants were to be treated differently to what others had been in tbe past. Mr Wilson seconded the motion, which was carried, Mr Dockrill dissenting. - A letter was read from Professor i Maclaurin stating his inability to attend the breaking up ceremony on the : 19th inst. ; The report dealing with the High ' School examinations were laid on the ■ table, and members expressed eatis- , faction at the excellent results ob- ; tained. Messrs Weston, Dockrill and Boy 1 were recommended for reappointment ■ as Governors, their term of office ex ■ piring by effluxion of time. ; Accounts were passed, and the Board 1 decided to meet next on the first FriI day in February aftor the re-opening ) of the school. t ' Tbe meeting then adjourned.
