TO THE EDITOR, i Sib, —The hon. secretary of the Garrison Band, in a half column of your issue of the 16 h inst., seeks to make it clear to your reiders that the Town Band do not wish to aid in making this contest a success, or did not, decide to do 60 as poon as they should have done. I cannot understand wby he is so anxious to prove that we are a disagreeable and discourteous lo\ After the contest at Warganui was over we learned that the Association had decided that the nt xt confest should be held in New Plymouth if matters could be arranged losally. A local committee was tiben formed to arraDge ways and means, and upon this committee one of the vice-prtsidents took a seat. We instructed him to inform the committee that we could not coinpete and to let us know if it appeared to him that we could be of service to the "committee in any other way, Jo regard to the circular of August last, it is stated that we are the only sinners among upward of twenty bands. If the local committee have been put to (inconvenience or are oflended by our neglect to send a written reply, I am quite prepared to give tbem an explanation and an apology, but I will not give you the trouble of putting it into print.—l am, etc,
