SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting of the Council was held on Monday at 10 a.m., wh< n all members were present. It was decided that the Henui bridge be erected according to the plans and specific itions pwpai e by \< T. K. Skinner, Borough Surveyor, at a cost of £3443, and the Finance Committee were empowered to endeavour Ito secure the monejgfrom the G>v rnment. It was further rewlved to request the Governor-in-Oouncil to allocate the amount to be pad by th» Taranaki Ciunty Council toward the cost of the woi k.

An amendment, proposed bv Or. Collis, that alternate plane (for iron and concrete) be prepared, was lost by 7 vo'es to 3.

The question of appointing an asais'ant engines at the waterworks wa* ditcussed, and the motion eventually lost. On the motion of the Mayor a resolution was passed requesting the Borough Solicitor to have the borough by-laws, sent to him on 24th July, with amendments on 13th September and 10th October, for legal'revision, ready for consideration by the Council |at its nrxfs ordinary meeting on 13th i January, and that in view of the rebuilding of the lmpsrwl Hotel it is of the utmost ioupor-ance that the building by-hws should be deilt with first. Messrs JE and F. Sole, contractors to the borough, wrote that they had received legal notice threatening that an injunction would bi sought to prevent them from taking stone from the beach.

The Council decided to indemnify the contractors for any expense they may be put to in this matter. The Oouncil then adjourned.
