THE TttENTHAM RIFLE MEETING. PEE PKESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, December 16. The first meeting under the management of the Defence Department commences at Trentham on 20 h February. Aggregate matches are still retained on the programme with the exception of the Marlborough and Ladies' matches, for which >quid shooting matches at 200 and 300 ynrds aie substitute;!, both counting fo- the aggregate. The annuil subscription is struck out, and entries for matches reduced. Lee-Enfields, and Mortini-Eafivlda are to be u*ed, priva'e rifles.debarred. The camp will be pitched at Tren tham, and arrangements made for messing.

Railway passes, second-clasa, will be issued to all computitors on application to officers commanding dis'ric's.

The Taranaki Rifles and Guards were paraded at the Drill Hall on Monday evening for battalion drill. There was a fair muster, the Rifles being under Lieuteuats Cock and Hooker, and Guards under Lieutenant Oooke. i

Lieutenant-Colonel Ellis, ackiogMajor Obey and acting-Adjutant Taunton were the batallion officers present.

The men ware put through some useful drill during the evening. Sergeant Armitige exenised the companies as a battalion in the physical dr II (full practice), and Sergeants Smith and Mills then put their respective cur-patties through separately. The companies were then drilled in extend d order hy Lieutenant Hooker and Sergeant Messeoger respectively. I SHOOTING. _ !
