VOLUNTEER NEWS.
A meeting of noo-commissiooed officers jof the Taranaki Batallion was held at [the Diill Hall on Monday eveaing when there were fourteen present, apologies for absence being received from three others. In the absence of Col.-Sergeant Okey at the commencement of the meeting, the chair was taken by Col.-Sergeant MacDiarmid, It was resolved to form a non-commis-sioned officers' club, to meet weekly on Wednesday evenings at 8 o'clock, commencing as from the 18th innt. and continuing till the companies go into camp about the end of January. Too object of this movemant is to promote efficiency especially amongst the younger non-coms. Au executive committee consisting of 001.-Bargeunt Okey and Sergeants Messenger and Smith was appointed, the last named being elected secretary of the club. An offer made by the officers of the battalion (who were elected patroos of the club) to render all the assistance in their power was much appreciated and will be taken advantage of. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman and secretary.
