(fjiom oue own cobrebpondeht.) Thb County Council's new offices are now in course of erection. There are to be three rooms : a Council Chamber, a Chairman's room, and a clerk's room. The accommodation will be far more adequate and convenient than it is in the office now in us*.
A meeting of tradespeople has been called to form a Trada Protection Association, with a view of checking the indiscriminate giving of credit which is so unsatisfactory a feature of the present business system. It is to be hoped their efforts to place business on a more satisfactory footing will meet with success.
The borough authorities have at last got the question of the municipal water supply vigorously in hand. They are advertising for the iron pipes required, and a few months should see the work well mder way, A good water supply is a necessity, not a luxury. Gome's old building is being dismantled, to provide a better entrance for the railway station. This will give carriers and others far greater facilities for handling goode, Mr. Rapley has left the Post Offioe and assumed control of the district agency for the equitable Life Assurance Company. His successor had not yet been appointed,
