The time was given as Imia. 2sec, butitceuldnot be accepted, as the timekeepers had to take it from the moment the competitors entered the water.
In order to afford Civill an opportunity of beating Lane's Australian fre*b -water record, an impromptu race was arranged subsequently. Though tiring towards the finish, Cavill succeeded. The time given officially was lmin. 3 l-ssec.
Champion ran second to Tucker iu the Ballarat Handicap. Dunn, of Ballarat, wen the Plunging Championship of Australia. Received 11, 1 am.
Melboubne, February 10. The Swimming Championship contests has been concluded. 220 Yard*.— ». Cavil], 1; Craig, Uew South Wales, 2; Hogan, Victoria, 3. Won by a couple of feet. Time, 2mm. 40|secs. Cavill also won the 1 Mile Handicap, beating Reid, of New South Wales, as Tie liked. Time, 27min. 56 2-sth sees. The first half-mile was covered in llmin. 2 1 ssecs.
