At one time those interested in higher education in this district were somewhat alarmed at the possibility of New Plymouth being struck off the list of local centres for the New Zealand University matriculation and other examinations, and took prompt means for bringing the matter before the Minister for Education* Itjjmust Jbe gratifying to those gentlemen to learn, that at the forthcoming examination 1 to be held at St, Andrew's Schoolroom, under the supervision of the Rev. S. S. Osborne, there will be twenty candidates, four of whom aro going up for matriculation, two for the medical preliminary, and four for junior scholarships. The examinations commence on Tuesday, December 4tb, at 9.30 a.m. and conclude on the 12th, at 5.30 p.m. The order paper, which has been issued, contains full and precise infor-, mation as to tho timetable for the various subjects and the rules applicable to candidates,
