SUGGESTED MEMORIAL TO THE LATE COLONEL STAPP.
TO THB EDITOR, Sißj—Would yon allow me, through your. column?, to suggest that some suitable memorial to the late Colonel Stapp; should-be raised % Few of our younger people have any conception ol the importance of the Colonel's work io yean Ipaafe and its influence upon the progr&s of the Province to-day. Many of the;oldesfc settlers could relate from experience what I, of course, only know from hearsay of his gallant conduct in the field during the war, and of the (feep Interest he has taken since that time; in the welfare of Taranaki. I feelisure that the older settlers, and also ikany of those who, like myself, eojoyjthe fruits of the selfrdenial and labour of such men as the late Colonel, would not allow such a life to pass away without erecting some memorial which would help succeeding generations to appreciate it. —I am, etc., F, 6. IiVANS, Vicar of St. Mary's. P.S.—Might I suggest that His Worship the Mayor be atked to call a public nesting of citiz;ns, so that a strong committee could be formed to carry out the resolutions arrived at by that meeting.
