CHINA INLAND MISSION.
On Thursday evening Dr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor and the Rev. Mr. Todd addressed a representative audience in the Whiteley Memorial Church on the work of the China Inland Mission. The Rev. Mr. Osborne presided, and, in the course of some introductory remarks, made appreciative reference to the deputation and the noble work with which they were connected.
The Rev. Mr. Todd (who, by the way, is a New Zealand " boy," being the son of the Rev. Mr. Todd, Presbyterian minister at Oamaru) gave the first audress, spe iking simply and earnestly of the claims of mission work on the sympathy and interest of all Christians.
Dr. Howard Taylor (a son of tlie Dr. Hudson Taylor, the well-known founder and director of the China Inland Mission) gave a lucid and most instructive address, in which he described the marvellous way in which their mission organisation had developed, and the still more wonderful manner in which the work and the workers were supported without any appeal for monetary assistance, and without resorting to any such expedients as borro wing or going in debt. The mission is emphatic evidence « that God Is, and that He is the revvarder of them that seek Him." Mrs. Howard Taylor, who followed her husband with an address of unusual charm and spirituality, described the work of the Mission from its inception* and dealt with many interesting phases of its work. It is difficult to write in terms that convey an adequate idea of the graciousness and attractiveness of Mrs. Taylor's address, but those who heard her will long remember the occasion and the impression made. At the close of the speaking a very hearty vote of thanks was passed to the 'deputation on the motion of the Rev. J, Cocker (Wangauui), who had been acquainted with Mrs. Taylor (nee Miss Grattan-Guinuess). Mr. and Mrs. Taylor and Mr. Todd leave for Auckland this evening on their way back to China.
