THE BUBONIC PLAGUE.
FURTHER CASES REPORTED IN SYDNEY. [per press association.] (Received 25,6 p.m.) . [I Sydney, February 25. Two more cases of bubonic plague have been reported in Sydney. Msckins, a laborer employed on the wharf, but residing at P) emont, was takoo ill on Wednesday. He saw a doctor yesterd iy, and the Utter declared the case to be one of plague. The symptoms, so far, are no'", alar jiing, but the health authorities confirm tin doctor's opinion. Makins' wife and family and another man and his wife and child, rosiding in the sani'i homo, havo beeu qmrantined. It is believed that the man contracted the plague from rats on the whirf. The second case, as to whnh there i.-. some doubt, is at B.ilma<n, and strictprecautions are being taken awaiting developments. A meeting of the Bwml of Health ! decided to declare Dudley's a true case of plague, and a campaign against rate is to be instituted.

Sydney, February 25. Amongst other measures to prevent the spread of plague, the Board of Health has resolved to urge upon the City Council tbe necessity of undertaking an active campaign against rats, and has approved of offering a bonus for tbeir bodies. >- Attention has been drawn to the fact? that a large number of rats >have died lately, especially in the vicinity-of the wharves. The Board is investigating, but id-nr>-. yet able to declare whether or not they died of. plague. It is also rumoured that a number of dead rats were found in Dudley's premises. The shipping companies are waging a war against rats. The Premier has officially informed' the other colonies of the outbreak.
