CHAIRMAN’S REVIEW Statutory Annual Meeting At the Statutory annual meeting of the Stratford Counity Council held to-day, the chairman, Mr T. R. Anderson, reviewed: (the work completed during the past year as follows: Mallau stream bridge.—The bridge was opened to traffic. This bridge was purchased from the Railway Department and converted into a traffic bridge. Kapuni stream bridge.—This has been ered.ed in concrete, and consists of one main span of 40 feet, together with two landing spans, the total length being 80 feet with a width, of 20 feet of roadway. The plans, etc., for ithe approaches are in the hands of the Highways. Board, and the work will be pu't in hand on receipt of the necessary approval. Huinga tunnel.—The lining of the southern half has been finished, and the nature of the structure of the portion leads to the belief -that a great number of years will elapse before any 'trouble can be expected in that direction. Waingongoro Road. —The refacing of 1J miles of this road wes completed last April; further work will be undertaken during the coming season. Makuri clay road.—The meltalling of the three miles connecting the Waiwirl and the Stanley Roads was finished lest month. Matau North Road.—Approximately two and a half, miles in length, has been coated with pit metal. Mahakau Ro.d.—The metalling of this roafl has been complei ..d, wiTb the exception of about four chains. The work connected with the cutting down of llhe tunnel is in hand, and when completed, the road surface will be coated with shingle. The last three memtioried works are being carried out under Ithe direction of the Public Works Department, who, like the Council, have been greatly handicapped by broken weather.
