AN UPHILL FIGHT
COUNTY MAKES 443 GRUELLING DAY FOR FIELDSMEN Wicket Showing Signs Of Wear (From the special correspondent of the United Press Association with the teamji. (Received 10.30 a.m.) Preskon. June 17. The New Zealanders spent an arduous daj in the field in the match, against Lancashire. The wicket was rather unexpectedly without vice, conditions being heart-breaking fori the bowlers. AU Lowry’s ingenious handling of the attack was without result. The batsmen were in command all day, the toltal score being 443. Paynter and Iddon’s brilliant .partnership ended shortly after lunch. Moloney’s slows were the most impTessive feature of Ithe attack. Donnelly took over slow left hand bowling after Vivian had pulled a leg muscle, and maintained accuracy, but was not rewarded with success. Cowie was full of vim.
