BATHING COSTUMES

AGITATION IN SYDNEY Minister’s Statement Sydney, June 6. All through the Australian summer just ended there has been an agitation in Sydney to allow men bathers not only to bathe in the sea but to sunbake on Sydney’s many lovely beaches in trunk costumes only. Recently the New South Wales Minister in charge of the question has announced that he will not relax the ex* isting regulations which insist upon men bathers wearing costumes with top parts to them covering the chest. He has left it to district municipalities to enforce this regulation. It has been repeatedly pointed out that on all the’ most famous beaches of Europe and America men are permitted to use trunk costumes.
