tary, Miss Lilley. It was decided to ask the Borough Council for a permit to collect during June and July.

Miss Hartnell, the Society’s organiser for the district, gave an outline of the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society. ‘‘.Someone has said that every man has more right to hear the Gospel once than any man has to hear it twice," said: Miss Hartnell. "That is what the British and Foreign Bible Society is helping to accomplish, for it is a partnership of Christian people who unite to ensure that everyone who clan read may be able to obtain the Holy Scriptures printed in his mother tongue.” Over 700 Languages. ‘‘Already it had helped the Gospel to speak in over 700- different languages, which are current among threequarters of the human race. Since the present century began, it has published' versions in over 300 forms of speech. • It has made the Bible the cheapest book in the world. It has helped to provide the Scriptures in 40 different languages in embossed type tor the blind. ‘‘All Scriptures published by the British and Foreign Bible Society .are printed without note or comment. It co-operatet: with the missionaries in preptring the versions they need. It prints the editions, bears the loss involved in their tale at reduced prices, and pays the carriage of the books to the farthest mission stations." “Life involves limitless possibilities ICir good or tor evil. It is the responsibility and the task of the'Christian Church to eee that these possibilities are developed for the welfare of all mankind. The Bible alone contains the message which can secure this I end. This, then, is no time for cutjting oil supplies of the Scriptures. The nations Will need: the ministry of God's Word. The aim of the Bible Society is ‘To make inspired writ the possession of tall mankind,’ ” said Miss Hartnell. .
