CHANGING THE GUARD
‘“Wise-cracking” Canadians Press Association—Copyright. London, May 14. The brightest spot in a crowded, murky Sunday was the mounting of he guard by the Canadian Coronation contingent at Buckingham Palace. This was attended by quite unorthodox incidents. The Canadians went through the Guard-changing ceremony with the precision of the troops who usually carry out U’he duty, and, entered the small sentry boxes at the Palace gates; These quarters—7ft by 2ft —were made more uncomfortable by crowds of Canadian visitors, who gathered in front of the sentry-boxes “wise, -tracking” their uniformed countrymen unmercifully. The soldiers at first tried to stand immobile and wooden-faced like Guardsmen, but their srelidity was broken down by such sallies from the crowd as “Getta load of Mac, he's trying to look dumber than a Guardsman. '‘What’ll they think about you in your home town, buddy?’’ “How about giving tig a ‘strip tease’ turn?” The guards began blushing in unsoldieriy fashion and /then, unable to control themselves, poked their heads out of the boxes’ and hurled back retorts at their tormentors.
