VISCOUNT SNOWDEN’S DEATH

The death of Viscount Snowden, former Chancellor of the Exchequer, occurred at his home ut Tilford, Surrey, to-day. Lady Snowden attended the Stat* ball last night, and stayed with friends at London. Summoned by telephone, she immediately motored to Tilford and arrived after her husband’s death. Their Majesties tent a message to Lady Snowden, paying tribute to hsr husband’s great services to the State while gallantly struggling against illhealth. Political tributes include one from Mr Neville Chamberlain., Chancellor of the Exchequer, who said: “He was a great patriot, a formidable foe and an invaluable friend.” Mr Lloyd George said: “Lord Snowden had one of the clearest minds and stoutest hearts I ever met in politics.” Mr J. R. Clynes, a prominent Labour member and former Cabinet Minister, said that Lord Snowden was one of the highest principled men in British public life.
